DrugBank

Tier: Authoritative (academic/commercial hybrid)

What it is

DrugBank is a curated pharmacology database maintained by the University of Alberta. It documents every approved drug's mechanism, interactions, and structured metadata.

Why we trust it

Each drug record is reviewed by pharmacology PhDs and cross-referenced to the primary literature. DrugBank data powers UpToDate, Medscape, and most clinical-decision-support systems.

What we use it for

Supplement–drug interactions — our primary source for class drug_interaction.

How Suvo applies it

DrugBank helps Suvo recognize medication names, drug classes, mechanisms, and documented interaction relationships. It is most useful when a supplement may affect absorption, metabolism, bleeding risk, sedation, or another medication-relevant pathway.

Limits

DrugBank is not a substitute for a pharmacist or prescriber reviewing a user's full medication list. Suvo uses it to surface caution and timing context, not to approve or reject a medication plan.
