What it is
The IOM (rebranded NAM in 2015) publishes Dietary Reference Intakes (DRIs), including RDAs and ULs, for nutrients consumed in the U.S. and Canada.
Why we trust it
The DRI process pools evidence from expert committees and remains the benchmark reference for U.S. clinical practice, FDA labelling, and USDA guidance.
What we use it for
Backup Upper Limits when EFSA and NIH ODS disagree; RDA baselines for adequacy findings.
How Suvo applies it
Suvo uses DRI values to compare a stack against established nutrient baselines and to explain when a supplement may be redundant. The reference is most useful when users combine multivitamins, fortified products, and single-ingredient supplements.
Limits
The DRI process is nutrient-focused. It does not cover every botanical, branded ingredient, or medication interaction, so Suvo uses IOM/NAM as a baseline source rather than a complete supplement database.
